Danville residents want sidewalks and park paths protected for pedestrians.

The Danville Sidewalk and Park Path E-Bike Survey received 676 responses. This was not a close call. When residents were asked whether e-bikes should be allowed on sidewalks and park paths, 588 residents — 87.1% — said no.

When asked whether they had personally felt unsafe because of an e-bike, e-moto, electric scooter, or similar device on a sidewalk or park path, 600 residents — 88.7% — said yes. That is the most important number in this survey. This is not theoretical. This is not political. This is not about being anti-bike. This is about residents feeling unsafe in the very places where they should feel safest.

And when asked whether they would support a Danville ordinance prohibiting e-bikes from neighborhood sidewalks and park paths, 593 residents — 87.7% — said yes.

The safety concerns were just as clear.

603 residents — 89.5% — identified pedestrian safety as a concern.

568 residents — 84.3% — identified the speed of e-bikes.

410 residents — 61.8% — identified safety of dog walkers.

337 residents — 50% — identified concerns about e-motos or electric motorcycle-type devices.
